A Time of Change Painting and Photos by Bern Will Brown

Community Life

Bern Will Brown lived in and visited most of the communities in the western Northwest Territories as well as several in the remote reaches of northern Alberta and Saskatchewan. His photos, both in black and white and colour, portray the daily lives of northerners at work and play in their home communities. Bern Will Brown’s obvious enjoyment of the people of the area comes through in every photo.

In the 1950s and 60s the difference between “bush” life and “town” life was much less visible than it is today. Bern’s photos of this era give a very clear impression of the importance of family and work in the daily lives of all northerners.
