Aklavik Today Aklavik is often flooded by the Mackenzie River. In the 1950s the Canadian government built a new town , Inuvik, on higher ground on the opposite side of the Delta. People living in Aklavik were encouraged to move there. Many of the people living in Aklavik decided not to move. Today, it is a thriving community whose motto is "Never Say Die" . |
