"Long Creek"

Kuugaryuk is a sheltered bay at the mouth of a creek. Like many other places, the traditional name for this location has been replaced. It is more commonly known today as North Star Harbour.

Inuvialuit Elder Edgar Kotokak explains the origin of the name "North Star Harbour":
Natkusiak [Billy Banksland] was staying around here. He wintered here with his boat named the North Star. Some white people that were at Utqaluk named this place North Star Harbour. The real name in Inuvialuktun is Kuugaryuk.
