Drum Dancing

The songs and dances performed by Inuvialuit to the beat of their drums may recount a successful hunt, or may relate to stories that have passed down through countless generations.

Drum dancing is enjoying a revival in many Inuvialuit communities, with elders teaching youth the songs and dance movements.

See young dancers in Tuktoyaktuk performing a dance to a song about paddling a kayak.
