Working with clay

In 1995, Inuvialuit Elder Ralph Kimiksana showed how people fashioned lamps from clay (qiku) when he was a child.

People used to make oil lamps[from] clay. They made it just like rock. They mixed it with sand and water, lots of water, and mix it and keep checking it…When it's all the same, then you mix the bark in and then you mix it till the whole thing gets black. Then you put some oil in it and mix it again.
