Our plans were completed in an hour or so and one week later I began a journey to an undecided destination and a separation from Civilisation [civilization] which lasted five years. We decided to buy our “Outfit” at Peace River Crossing, our real jumping off place, but purchased the most important items, such as rifles, field glass etc, in Edmonton, just in case we might not be able to get what suited us elsewhere.

Edmonton to Peace River crossing meant a train journey of approximately 400 miles, and we accomplished it without incident.
