Changing Times

Many changes took place at Kitigaaryuk in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Many Inuvialuit converted to Christianity after the Anglican Church started a mission there in 1911.

The Hudson's Bay Company built a post at Kitigaaryuk in 1912. Inuvialuit no longer had to travel far up the Mackenzie River to trade their furs.

Traders, missionaries and other outsiders brought new illnesses to Inuvialuit. Many became very ill or died .
