The North Star, circa 1915. (GSC/38531) |
The North Star The North Star was a cargo ship, locally called a 'schooner'. For many years, it was owned by Natkusiak, who also was known as Billy Banksland. Natkusiak helped to extend the fur trade to Banks and Victoria Islands. He inspired other Inuvialuit, including Nuligak, to purchase schooners and to operate them throughout the western Canadian Arctic. |
