Q. Why did it take so long to decide on the pipeline?

A. When the original application was received in the early 1970s, in the Mackenzie Delta there was 6.8 trillion cubic feet of gas in three pools. Canada uses one trillion cubic feet of gas per year. So, at the time it was seven years' supply for Canada. It's so costly to bring that to market. I'm sure they were searching every corner to make it work.
But today there's also shale gas and our community of Fort Liard is sitting on top of it. There's an estimated 7.5 trillion cubic feet of gas ... that's the difference.
