Q. Why have some people changed their mind about the pipeline?

Fort Liard - Press Conference - Question #2

A. In 1974 I was living in Whitehorse. Chief Elijah Smith, an elder, said the pipeline will change the way we live forever. He encouraged me to come back to Fort Liard and say 'No' to the pipeline. But after we said 'No' to Berger, all the communities knew it was only going to be temporary ... We knew the issue would pop up again.

In 2000, all the leadership came to Fort Liard. They said, if the pipeline is to be built, we want ownership. Today, 34 percent of ownership is by the people of the Mackenzie Valley and the Delta. It's quite a change.
