Q. What do you miss most from your childhood?
A. I think the idea of putting the community first, before ourselves. When I was growing up, Jean Marie had a community garden. When we harvested, everyone had a fair share. We had a tugboat and a barge, and when we went fishing in the Great Slave Lake the fish were shared.
When moose was taken, it was shared. Even there was a sawmill where the men from each family worked. Everyone took out of their picket and gave for the gas and the seed potatoes. Even the trapping in the winter. It was a very community-minded community!
