The usual number of dogs in a train is five, but Billy Grey asked us to take one dog along for a Trader called Alec Loutit at Fort Fitzgerald, so our train had six dogs. Demon – Curly – Polar – Spot – Tony and Nigger.
Demon was a splendid sleigh dog but vicious and would rather fight than eat. A dog's harness consists of a Collar – back band & traces. The front end of each trace has a snap – the other end, a ring, consequently, when pulling, the traces make one straight line.
The lead dog answers to Yeux – left, Cha right. Wo – stop and March – go on. Some leaders are wonderfully intelligent
