Game is shot – Geese, Duck, Ptarmigan and Grouse. Moose, Bear and Deer. All are delicacies but at a pinch, we can also eat Beaver, Muskrat and Porcupine.
Quite frequently when moose or Deer were killed, the meat would be dried or pounded for convenience when travelling. Dried meat was cut into thin slices, hung on a rack whilst a smoky fire was kept going underneath it. This, supposed to keep flies away while the hot Sun was drying it. But it really seemed to be the one place for flies to deposit their eggs.
