not be overlooked. We needed fish for dog feed. Hearing that some Indians were setting out for a place called the “Little Fishery”. I decided to accompany them. It was one day's journey – roughly 50 miles – away, which meant that camping equipment must be taken.

Our trail led over vast “Salt Plains”, where one spring alone, evaporating, supplied most of the Northern Trading Posts, with a good grad of coarse table salt. Having made an early start, we arrived at our destination in good time to make camp before dark.
