Leisurely I strolled across to the Hotel, not giving the message much attention, but on arrival, found that W. Christie was an Inspector with the Hudson's Bay Company, and had just arrived from Edmonton, bringing instructions for my return to Fort Chipewyan where I was to act as Book keeper. My hopes of seeing the “Bright Lights” of Edmonton were dashed to the ground.

Dismally – with W. Christie – I returned on the speeder, to Fort McMurray, where we purchased a Canoe and a small Outboard motor – commonly called a Kicker.

W. Christie asked me if I knew anything about a Kicker and I assured him that I could handle it, having driven a car for a year.
