A Northern Experience: The Journals of Norman Robinson
Trapping with Hornby Page 18

Back at our shack, we got ready for Winter. Shelters were made for the dogs, which when covered with snow were really snug.

Traps had to be burned over a spruce fire to remove human scent. A long line of rabbit snares was set out and all fixed on tossing poles which raised the caught rabbit high enough above the ground so that foxes and other robbers couldn’t reach them. Then trap lines were prepared. Trails had to be cleared so that we could ride around in the sleigh.
