whole body seemed to be freezing-may have actually began for all I know—the pain seemed to leave anyway. I came to a leaning tree under which the whirling snow had made a lovely big hole—just room to crawl in—pull the snow around me –have a sleep and rest. I hardly knew what I was doing. I crawled in and began to work the snow up on all sides. If I had succeeded I would have slept a long last sleep.
But, as far as I know, I was only there a few moments when I got the most terrible cramps in my legs. I couldn’t stand the pain. It was excruciating and luckily drove me out of the hole. There was nothing for it but to stagger on to camp and into bed.
