Thule Artifacts

Over 600 artifacts were recovered from these excavations, including fired clay pot sherds, an unusual occurrence in this part of the Arctic. The ancient occupants of Crystal II preferred to eat seal and caribou but bones of walrus, whale, fox, polar bear, dog, wolf, musk-ox and arctic hare were also recovered. Many of the long bones of these animals had been broken into small pieces, perhaps to extract the marrow, rich in protein and fat.
