Across the Lake, Great Slave Lake I mean, lay Fort Providence, with its large Catholic Mission.

Until 1921, the language of the schools in the north, was entirely French & it is not uncommon to find a full blooded Indian who was educated at these missions – talking nothing but French.

It was at Providence that I saw what I believe to be the first aeroplane ever in the North. It landed in February 1921 & caused quite a disturbance.
