showed no interest. When ready – he got up & notified his wish to trade.

Starting with a blanket (which was spread on the floor), he made his purchases, placing each item on the blanket. From time to time he would ask how much he had left & when he was down to just a few dollars remaining – he would give his Squaw a chance.

Trading was not done in dollars & cents, but in “skins” a skin being an imaginary indication of 50 cents. An article was not worth $1.00 it was worth 2 “skins”.

Every kind of fur was brought in & trading lasted all winter.

Fort Good Hope, situated inside the Arctic Circle, had about 6 weeks of endless sunshine,
