Leaving Arctic Red River, we ran 50 miles further, down the McKenzie and then turned up the Peel River, going continually around S curves, till, 60 miles from the mouth, we reached Fort McPherson, our most Northerly objective.
We had done the whole distance in less than two weeks but had ahead of us, the return trip upstream which would take a month.
