It was at Arctic Red River that a friend of mine – Harry Verville became famous, years later, as a guide for the mounted Police in the man hunt for the mad trapper Johnson, who had killed one Policeman and badly wounded another.
An aeroplane, piloted by “Wop” May was brought to the assistance of the party, and Johnson was eventually shot to death. “Wop” May, pilot of that plane, was the man who, during the Great War, was doing his utmost to escape from Baron Von Richtofen when that great German Ace was shot down – the first plane to be bagged by a young British Airman – Roy Brown.
Wop May was destined to become one of the most famous of our Northern Pilots, making trip after trip
