it was not long before we had caught sufficient fish and were glad to return to Fort Smith. Trapping was all over and spring preparations had been begun. With all the hunters in the Post dancing and gambling went on continuously.
Soon the snow had vanished and at last the first boat, loaded with supplies from Fort McMurray, arrived at Fort Fitzgerald, eighteen miles South of Fort Smith.
Amongst other numerous arrivals were some men on their way to Fort Norman – 800 miles further north.
There had been an Oil strike at Fort Norman and these men were in the employ of one of the Oil Companies.
They had two 40 foot scows with them, loaded
