It was a terrible trip and I must have been more or less unconscious towards the end. Enough snow had fallen to make walking difficult. Anyway, eight miles from Smith, we met some Indians with sleighs, who gave us a lift or rather gave me a lift.Hornby said he would walk ahead of the dogs and although the Indians whipped up the dogs in an effort to catch him, we never saw him till we reached the Post. He was a wonderful traveler and has been known to do 100 miles in a 24 hour day.
