View GPR signals of house remains buried in the ground at Kuukpak

Finding evidence of long-abandoned dwellings buried in the ground at Kuukpak was the first challenge for archaeologists.

One way to find buried remains is to use ground penetrating radar, or ‘GPR’. GPR sends a radio signal into the ground. Buried objects bounce the radio signals back to a receiver, and a computer analyzes the signal. Under the right conditions, the signals can indicate the size, shape and depth of things buried in the ground.

GPR is not precise enough to reveal exactly what lies in the ground, but it can show archaeologists where to dig.
